The Memorial Avenue was established in 1983 to commemorate those who served in the Vietnam War.
The sign was refurbished and unveiled on the 14th August 2016.

A memorial rock, installed by the Wangaratta and District Vietnam Veterans Association, was unveiled on the 7th May 1996.

A single row of alternately planted Claret Ash (Fraxinus angustifolia var. oxycarpa ‘Raywoodii’) and Golden Ash (Fraxinus excelsior ‘Aurea’) trees, lines the south-west verge on the southern outskirts of Wangaratta.

Provided by the Rural City of Wangaratta in April 2023, the new shelter provides a contemplative space.
Locals and visitors can enjoy this living memorial and appreciate those service men and women it honours.

*Whilst Australia’s participation in the war was formally declared at an end on11 January 1973, the end-date of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War has officially been amended to 29 April 1975 to reflect Australia’s further involvement in the war during the fall of Saigon in 1975. The Department of Veterans Affairs and the Australian War Memorial, in Canberra now recognise this new date.
