By default and by design, this Royal Poinciana tree has become a living memorial for Warrant Officer James (Jim) Barnes who owned and ran the drapery store from 1946 to 1975.
Jim planted the tree back n 1955 and since his death in September 2003, courtesy of the Dayboro War Memorial Association and the Barnes family, has become a lasting legacy to his war service and his indomitable spirit, surviving three & half years as a Japanese POW.
